How we do it

From woodland walk to finished product, join us on the journey each animal takes to arrive at your front door.

Inspiration is born

Inspiration starts on our country walks. When we stop to admire the fauna, that’s when the critters start to appear. Our job is simple. To look. To listen. To notice. A new bud on that tree. A different call from that bird.

The seed of an idea

Back at the studio, our products start life as pen and ink drawings on paper, often stoked by a stack of reference books and birdwatching encyclopedias. Then, Lily photographs her sketches and reworks them digitally.

Coming to life

After cutting and engraving the animals in wood, we start to think about colour, using the wood itself as our starting point. Each creature is hand painted individually, usually with a bit of 6Music, First Aid Kit or Loyle Carner in the background. Then we simply let that creature roam from mini pin to plant pot companion, to carousel and beyond.

Full circle moment

When a good light day comes along, we photograph our latest creations for you to see. And just like the original kernel of inspiration, the seed heads, grasses and pine cones you see in our photos are finds from our daily woodland walks.
